First Appeared in Gympie Times and Courier Mail 9th September 2025
Plans for a new $100m over-50s village near the Mary Valley Rattler are steaming ahead with the developer now taking sales inquiries for the land lease estate
Family-owned developer McGovern is now moving forward on its plans to open the 158-lot gated community, Horizon Living, which was given the green light by Gympie Regional Council in 2023.
The estate will include a community centre with a bowls green, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, pickleball courts, gymnasium, theatre, library, games room, and stage and dining hall.
Reports have put the cost of the estate’s community centre alone at $10m.
Horizon Living’s units will each have two bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, private terrace and lockup garage, its development application said.
The developer bought the land in 2022 for $1.87m, RP Data online records show.
McGovern’s website says it has partnered with MPS Architects, a company which specialises in over-50s estates, for the Horizon Living project.
The McGovern family has been a fixture of Queensland’s development scene for more than 20 years.
Their projects include commercial, residential, and tourism developments including the Rivershore Resort glamping park on the Maroochy River, and the company has now established a sales office at Gympie’s Condies Arcade in Mary St.
